GRAPEFRUIT PEEL RIBBONS

Grapefruits are of the Rutaceae family and have many health benifits. The peel of these versatile fruits are used in essential oils, soaps, perfumes, many preserves and marmalades but more importantly as a botanical in making gin. In gin, grapefruit peels bring out a citrus taste with a more bitter wndertone, giving the flavor a zingy lift. Grapefruits are native to Spain. The grapefruits are harvested throughout February to May. Once they have chosen which will be pressed for juice by the machines they hand pick ones for drying out. Each Grapefruit is peeled by hand and individually hung up to dry out. The labour intensive processing of these peels is sure worth every minute when infused into a gin.Yum!
